Darlene\u00a0Robinson Millender is both a writer and a crafty lady. She’s a freelance journalist and blogs at The Birmingham Buff<\/a>. She’s also the woman behind jewelry line Designed by Didi Jewelry, one of our sponsors for July. Here, she tells us more about her work.<\/div>\n

I began creating jewelry in 2006 as a way to relax after my twins started sleeping through the night. After friends and strangers would comment positively on my one-of-a-kind beaded pieces, I decided to see if I could sell any of them. \u00a0Most of my immediate customers included family, church members and co-workers. I also set up my tent at various festivals throughout the city and state. \u00a0But due to family and work demands, I’d stopped producing commercial pieces some time ago.<\/em><\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/em>I became a freelance writer\/editor last year and that has given me a little more breathing room to also create more of my unique jewelry. \u00a0I’ve recently relaunched my jewelry line – Designed by Didi<\/a>.<\/em><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n
<\/p>\n
For me, crafting jewelry is therapeutic, quite calming. Writing, on the other hand, is a more fiery pursuit. \u00a0I am passionate about both. As Maya Angelou says, “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” I’m thankful that I am a creator.<\/em><\/div>\n
