Thursday’s launch party, presented by Hamer Law Group, was amazing! More than 75 people came out to Aloft Hotel Birmingham to help us celebrate. My friends and family members and even people I’d never met before came to show their support. Some even drove in from cities like Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Jacksonville, and Guntersville.

The food was delicious, our signature drink — The Jane — was yummy, and the party was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones. And none of this would have been possible without our great sponsors.

The highlight of the night, however, was The Simple Booth. The Simple Booth takes photo booth fun to a new level offering an open play area that includes you, a camera, a remote, and a bunch of your closest (or soon-to-be close) friends as you see just how crazy you can act!

The Simple Booth is run by Lynsey Weatherspoon, a very talented Birmingham-based photographer.

Darlene Robinson Millender is both a writer and a crafty lady. She’s a freelance journalist and blogs at The Birmingham Buff. She’s also the woman behind jewelry line Designed by Didi Jewelry, one of our sponsors for July. Here, she tells us more about her work.

I began creating jewelry in 2006 as a way to relax after my twins started sleeping through the night. After friends and strangers would comment positively on my one-of-a-kind beaded pieces, I decided to see if I could sell any of them. Most of my immediate customers included family, church members and co-workers. I also set up my tent at various festivals throughout the city and state. But due to family and work demands, I’d stopped producing commercial pieces some time ago.

I became a freelance writer/editor last year and that has given me a little more breathing room to also create more of my unique jewelry. I’ve recently relaunched my jewelry line – Designed by Didi.

For me, crafting jewelry is therapeutic, quite calming. Writing, on the other hand, is a more fiery pursuit. I am passionate about both. As Maya Angelou says, “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” I’m thankful that I am a creator.

See Jane Write Magazine Launch Party will be held July 18 at aloft Hotel

Help us celebrate the launch of this new website!

Our launch party is set for 5:30 p.m., Thursday, July 18 and is presented by Hamer Law Group, LLC.

The party will be held at aloft Hotel in Homewood, Ala.

This event will be a great chance to mix and mingle with local writers and media mavens. Come learn more about this online magazine and meet our sponsors — who happen to be some of the best entrepreneurs of the South.

There will be light refreshments and a full cash bar featuring our special drink of the night, The Jane.
